April Goals

“Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.”
 ― Emily Dickinson

Before I even begin to think about the month that March was, I want to remind myself that it is April. New months can be like new years or new days, even at three in the afternoon. A fresh start...with an emphasis on fresh. Fresh, fresh, fresh, minty fresh. Or hopefully, in our case, fresh flowers blooming in the ground, comm'on Spring!!!

March Goals:
  • Keep trying to journal - I've decided this is not the season for journalling. I gave it a three month go. I'm setting this aside for now.
  • One coffee/lunch date with friends each week - once a week continues to be good, I need to be better at not over scheduling...
  • Focus on Friday mornings - this hasn't proven to be good time for me, still working on it.
  • Get Out - Do you realize how rotten the weather has been this March?!
  • Finish books I am mid-way through - Success! I finished Where'd You Go, Bernadette, and Love Does and re-read Bread and Wine with a very successful book club. I also starting reading one of my nightstand books.
  • Start my mornings before the kids/work on bible study during breakfast. Behr wakes up sooooo early!
  • Create family time in the margin. We are booked every weekend this month.  With the busy schedule, I want to be intentional about creating time with the boys, meeting their needs. They are both moving so fast, learning so much. It feels like a crucial time for family time.  This is where I am most upset I didn't do this better...putting more structure around it for next month.

April Goals:
  • Shift my focus towards hope -- more to come on this.
  • One coffee/lunch/dinner date with friends each week.
  • Go for a walk every day -- even just around the block. Every day.
  • Plan work time vs. family time with Mark the night or weekend before. Setting a timer for play time and work time. We are again booked every weekend this month. With the busy schedule, I want to be intentional about creating time with the boys, meeting their needs. Hudson turns one in two days! He is about to start walking. Behr is learning and testing limits. I want to be fully engaged.

What are your goals for April?

  1. What did you think of Where'd You Go Bernadette? Everyone loved it, but it wasn't my favorite.

    1. Without giving the story away, I didn't like where the storyline with the assistant went -- I could have done with a different twist there. I did however love the ending.

    1. My friend dates are typically with kids on tow...with friends without kids (or else they would be play dates, right?). Somehow I think it works remarkably better when there is no one around to call me mom!

    1. Oh no...not sure why this comment was deleted, but I am cheering for Spring too!

  4. I love how honest you are with your goals- it's hard sometimes to set things aside for the season, but sometimes we just have to be patient until the time is right.

    1. Its so tempting to make the "season" excuse, but when I am putting something aside that I am passionate about (like my etsy shop or journaling), I know it is for a short period. Thanks for the encouragement!

  5. There are definitely a lot of things that are harder in this season! But, I love the goal of walking everyday--even around the block :) I tried that goal last month (I didn't totally meet it!), but it was so good to get out and great some fresh air!

    1. Walking every day. Every day. My whole family benefits from this one on so many levels, health, mind set, attitude, focus, etc. A deep breath of fresh (city) air makes every day with kiddos better. I am a firm believer that we aren't meant to be cooped up.

  8. I like how you made your goals a little more concrete this month. That always seems to help me. And to be honest, I like that I'm not the only one who sometimes flops. Sometimes I read a handful of these and everyone is meeting their goals and I'm all like "Why am I no good at this? Ahhh". Also, props for finishing half done books. I need to work on that!
